from e n c h a n m e n t to d o w n

this is a photograph from thomas czarnecki, the thing i really like about the series of images he's done with disney princess' is the way he brought them kicking and screaming into the real world, damaged them beyond repair - killed them and lets us see them in all their brutal glory.

they are moody brooding images of broken illusions and the disenchantment of our childhoods. i feel like he makes the ideas behind the story real and that's super awesome. like ariel for example in the above picture has a tail made from plastic wrap that matches the surf so brilliantly. her purple shells and red hair explode jump out at you - like bruises, and leave you feeling like you've done it. you ruined her. the viewer is implicated with such a passive confrontation that is deeply disturbing.

belle collapsed over a pink velvet sofa. pocahontas killed to have her head stuffed and displayed on the wall. your happy ending is fucked
